Wixárika Partnerships
Direct partnerships with the women who make every piece.
Eleven women, one workshop
Sol & Stone works directly with a Wixárika beadworking cooperative in San Andrés Cohamiata, Nayarit. The workshop is led by Ramona Quintero, a third-generation beadworker, and employs eleven women full-time. There are no middlemen, no agents, no buying houses between us and the maker.
Fair pay, in writing
Sixty percent of every retail dollar goes directly to the artisan. We pay before the piece is shipped, not after the customer pays us. Seasonal bonuses, healthcare contributions, and a savings fund for materials are part of the standard arrangement.
Patterns, not products
The patterns are owned by the cooperative. We license them, we do not buy them. If we ever stopped working with the cooperative, the patterns stay where they belong, with the women whose grandmothers carried them.
Visit
Twice a year, we travel to Nayarit. We meet the team, choose beads, and bring back stories. If you are a journalist, retailer, or partner who would like to visit, write to us at hello@solandstone.com.
